CHARACTER INFO

Character: Dion Lesage
Canon: Final Fantasy XVI - just before departing to face Ultima the final time.
Age: 30

Background Information: Wiki Link

Personality:

1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.

Dion is an upstanding, compassionate, determined leader. He is the kind of person who fights for his ideals and beliefs, he exhibits a kindness that's rare for his station, and he stands as a pillar of hope for the nation of Sanbreque. He sees being Bahamut's Dominant as a duty that he is more than willing to perform in exchange for everything he's gotten. He holds frustration and contempt towards those who would question his position and whether or not he is deserving, which is likely why he never got along with Anabella. It is not entirely the fact that she stole the throne from him, while vexing, but rather she called into question his position and demanded he be grateful to be getting anything at all. Despite Sylvestre's doubts, Dion has never been the enemy of Sanbreque, but rather its champion and he wants what is best for the people. He is willing to perform a coup d'état to get that, when his father has lost his way.

The biggest indicator that his compassion is recognized is the sheer support he has and how quickly he is able to turn the tides against the royal family when he takes that action. He is courageous, willing to throw his life on the line to save the innocents. This is what gives his dragoons faith in him. While he resents being treated as little more than a pawn in a chess game by his father, he finds his time with the dragoons to be the most freeing. He's able to garner genuine respect by fighting in the thick of things with the men under his command.

He comes across as an incredibly uptight and poised individual, giving off an air of being a prince and noble, it's not hard to imagine that being the truth, and yet he's also painted in melancholy and secrets. He is visibly weighed down by guilt, and the quirk about keeping his right arm close to his body might be a reflex that suggests he's injured in some way. He gives off the impression that he's far too serious for his own good and likely needs a bit of loosening up.

2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?

Guilt is Dion's major motivating factor at this point in time. The chaos that was brought about thanks to his coup d'état caused a lot of problems, but it also caused Ultima to force him into priming - and Bahamut out of control caused countless amounts of devastation in Sanbreque. The suffering of his people, the destruction of their homes, that was all his fault - in Dion's opinion. He feels terrible for asking for forgiveness and does not expect acceptance of that.

He's always been easily identified as an ally of Joshua, partly because he knew the Rosfields long ago when they were children, but partly because he could count on Dion's character. Knowing that there's a darkness and poison in Sanbreque and the land at large was enough to get him on side. Dion wasn't expecting to be forced into destruction and he carries strong guilt and responsibility. He feels he should've been able to stop Ultima from doing that. He should've remained in control.

It isn't just a problem that needs fixing, but one he needs to fix by his own hand which is why he sent Terence away, ultimately culminating in rejecting his support. He feels he must stand on his own both to fix things and as penance for the destruction and chaos he wrought. He throws his lot in with Joshua and Clive to lend his support and do his best to annihilate Ultima, because no one is more responsible for him than him - in his mind. His goal is to stop him by any means necessary and he is willing to give his life to do so.

3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?

While in some ways Dion's rigidity is a good thing and how steadfast he is, it also makes him stubborn and willful. He could have engaged Joshua's help in dealing with the matters in Sanbreque, but to his pride he did not. Dion also has a temper, seen most notably when the throne was usurped right from under him. His conversations with Anabella are tinged with barely concealed hostility. While he often can keep under control despite being angry, when he loses his temper he's likely to do something like strike furniture or try and kill Olivier. Considering he struck Sylvestre instead, he regrets it very deeply, although when he does kill Olivier, that he has no problem with. Despite his rocky relationship with his father, he had no desire to kill him, nor see him die. He had hope they could reconcile.

It also makes Dion excessively formal and somewhat stiff in his interactions with people. He refers to his fellow Dominants by their Eikon rather than their name and it's likely a defense mechanism to keep people at arm's length. It's unclear what Dion is afraid of. Whether it's his parentage coming to light, the fact he didn't finish his education, his relationship with his second in command or something else entirely, he tends to keep himself at a distance from his political opponents, people who likely might understand him the most.

He's also excellent at catastrophizing and wallowing in guilt that's not entirely deserved, holding Ultima's actions as his own and with no one to step in and stop him he's willing to go to excessive lengths to deal with that guilt.

Abilities & Inventory:

Inventory - His usual armor, and his dragoon lance.

Note - Dion will be asking for a tattoo of a white wyvern tail on his hip with the element of light. This should give him all of his abilities back, Clive can't just be an ability hog forever. Because he's using the world's magic over his own the only thing that will take a toll on him is priming into Bahamut.

Megaflare / Gigaflare / Teraflare / Zettaflare - Abilities that involve directing beams of light, balls of light, blasts of light either in human form or Bahamut form. In general, Dion can wield the light to do what he wants with it. It's likely going to be more flexible because the light magic he's actually wielding now comes from the tattoo and doesn't carry the same cost.

Partial Priming - A partial transformation to Bahamut which will make him glow with a bit of turquoise light in his clothes, his hair, along his arms. He also grows big draconic wings. A partial priming makes Dion much more sturdy, his attacks more powerful and he has several patches of scales on his body, beneath his clothes. This drains him significantly. His curse will not progress too much, but the effect will not be nothing. He will find himself completely wiped out after using this. It's likely to be his strongest form. (Although this is not seen in the game there's no reason Dion wouldn't be able to do this - all of the Dominants can)

Full Priming Into Bahamut - Dion can transform into the great Eikon Bahamut, only roughly the size of a soccer ball to begin with. His attacks still have a bit of sting to them proportionate to his size. This drains him quite a bit. He has always had great control over this and can do so at will - but he tends to avoid it if he can, choosing rather to rely on his dragoon abilities over his magic, if at all possible.

Dragoon Abilities/Skills - Several moves that involve things like Jump, Elusive Jump, High Jump and an attack that ties into his light magic, blasting everything around in a large AOE with light, that isn't specifically named. Dragoons jump much higher than most people and wield their lances deftly. Dion is capable of all of these, as shown frequently jumping and landing. He has a clean record of not tanking the floor.

ARMADA SELECTION

Choose between Corsairs or Paladins and include a brief blurb explaining why.

As the Dominant of Bahamut, Dion is the paragon of justice and so he would fit in perfectly with the Paladins. Dion has always held steadfast to his beliefs and seeks to protect those around him, particularly the innocents of his country. He would see it as his duty to help protect those from the Corsairs. He would likely agree to be with an expedition party - he's not interested in conquering the land.

He doesn't have much experience in investigation per se, but he's definitely enforcer material. He also doesn't have seafaring experience so he has no intention on starting his own ship, but he would be happy to serve under a just and fair Captain, for the benefit of future generations.
